Schedule Changes:
Take a look at the new schedule. Mondays will primarily be all the extra classes. Choose your core classes from the Tuesday to Thursday Schedule.
We are merging the kickboxing and 13+ classes together. That means more options for you!
Competitions:
We will sponsor 2 karate style tournaments in 2009. Tentatively scheduled for May 9th and September 19th at Luzerne County Community College. Details at www.gmaopen.com You can register for all events at the May 9th event for just $20 for all events by downloading and printing the registration form from www.gmaopen.com and bring it with payment to the school before March 15th. After March 15th normal registration fees apply. These are events for all ages.
Competition practice will be Mondays at 6:30.
We will be attending all the tournaments listed on the attached calendar.
Kickboxing and MMA events:
We will be holding several Kickboxing and MMA events in 2009. Several of our fighters are featured on the cards throughout the year: Jamie Trusa, Kris Lindsey, Joe Kern, Jade Care, Tyler Austra and more. Tickets at the door are $25 and we typically get between 200 and 400 spectators from other gyms. We need more spectators from GMA so we are discounting tickets to GMA members to just $10 as long as you purchase them two weeks or more in advance.
Summer Camp:
We will be holding several summer camps this year at the school. They will run Monday to Wednesday from 9am to Noon. Check the website for updates. www.gmakarate.com
Class requirements:
See the 2009 schedule for class requirements. Remember you can always add a sparring class or competition class for $10 per month.
New Equipment:
We will have new equipment requirements for 2009 that will be phased in over the course of the year. All students must have a mouth piece and all males must have an athletic cup by March 1st. Mouthpiece is $3.00 and athletic cup is $10.
By April 1, 2009 all level one students (age 7 and up white to green belt) must have a pair of knee pads, shin guards, foot protection and gloves for class. We have a put together a package for 39.95. Level 2-3 adults also need a head gear and Level 2-3 children need a headgear with facemask and rib guard. If you are already in a sparring class then you have all the equipment you need.
Awards Banquet:
The 2009 awards banquet is scheduled for December 5th at Genetti’s In Wilkes-Barre
